Where are you located?

We are located at 230 S 500 W, #105 at Artspace City Center. Artspace City Center is located in the heart of the Art District in downtown Salt Lake City, UT. Artspace City Center is a renovation of the historic ZCMI warehouse, originally built in 1905. City Center now includes 18 live/work artist townhouses, galleries, art studios and office space. The building has an interior garden where the trains used to unload goods to be stored. The historic charm of City Center extends to both the commercial and residential spaces, which have original exposed brick walls and beamed ceilings.

Is there parking?

All parking spaces in the front of the Artspace building are reserved. Parking is strongly enforced in the reserved lot. Please park in the lot to the south (the lot without any white lines) or on the street.

How much are classes?

Class costs begin at $45 for a 90 minute beginning class. Sequence classes that take place over several days and project class costs vary. Some classes include all supplies, and others require you to bring in your own fabric and notions. When supplies are required, you'll be notified with a list of requirements for the class.

How do I register for classes?

Payment for classes is required five business days before the start of class. Due to limited space, classes fill quickly and supplies need to be ready for each student. You can sign up in person, over the phone, or online.

Can I cancel my class registration?

If you cancel a class ten days in advance, a full refund will be provided. If you cancel a class five days in advance, you will be provided a credit for future classes. If you cancel 4-2 days prior to class, a 75% credit will be given. If you cancel the day before, a 50% credit will be given. No credit will be given if you cancel the day of class.

Do you allow children in class?

Classes are 18 and older unless otherwise specified. There are classes for kids ages 6-11 when a parent joins them (Sewing with Littles) and a series of Youth classes for ages 12-17.

How important is it that I am on time for class?

It's important. If you are more than 15 minutes late, it may be difficult to catch up as we begin on time. It's unfair to other students to take time out to get you up to speed, so you must be able to begin where the class is if you're late.

What if I miss a class in a sequence?

If you miss a class, but would like to continue the sequence, contact the studio for help in catching up. If you happen to miss the last class in a sequence, you can attend a make-up class the next time it is held.

I haven’t touched a sewing machine in a long time or ever. Where should I start?

It’s best to start with Sewing 101 to get comfortable with sewing. This class teaches you all the basics necessary to help you with future project classes.

I’m a fairly experienced seamstress. What classes should I take?

Any of the project or technique classes are suited for you. You can perfect or learn new techniques or simply participate by creating a project with a cool group of people.

Should I buy a sewing machine before my first class?

If you don’t have a machine already, it’s a good idea to come to Sewing 101 and get familiar with what you need in a machine. It’s better to be educated about the kind of machine you’ll need and this class will help you with that process.

I have my own machine. Can I bring it to class with me?

Absolutely. If this is the case, please contact me with the name and model of your machine so I am familiar with it as well. If you don’t have a machine, you can use one from the studio. Please do not bring vintage (pre-1980s) machines to class.

Does it cost extra to use the studio sewing machines?

Not at all. Sewing machine use is included with your registration.

What do I need to bring to class?

Many classes include all supplies necessary. Each class will specify any additional supplies that you need to bring along. Most classes will have a class kit available for purchase, but it’s also fun to pick your own materials so you can create something you will love.

How do I find about new class schedules?

You can find schedules a few different ways. Schedules are highly subject to change depending on registration, so always check back. Also new classes are added as interest grows.

  • Check our online schedule.
  • Follow our Facebook page.
  • Check the calendar in the studio.
  • Or just give us a call!

Do you host parties or events?
